Fatsia flower: home care and breeding methods
Content:
Some flower crops have been grown in the territory of the Russian Federation only recently. This is the fatsia that flower growers immediately liked. This is a shrub that quickly gains height without requiring complex maintenance methods. Beautiful foliage and crown harmonize well with other plants. It is worth learning in more detail about the features of growing and the properties of a plant that came from its homeland - Japan and South Korea.
Main types
Indoor and garden forms are known, there is only one species - Fatsia japonica, or Japanese fatsia. Another name is Japanese aralia. In nature, it occurs on the coast in the form of shrubs up to 2 meters, evergreen, without branches. The foliage is shiny, on long petioles, a rounded plate up to 30 cm has 5 to 9 lobes. The color is green, variegated, with white or yellow spots. How does Japanese Fatsia bloom? The flowers are white, collected in umbrellas.
Despite the fact that aralia, or fatsia, is represented by only one species, breeders have bred hybrids and varieties that differ in the size of the bushes and color. Their derivative is Japanese fatsia, the care of which serves to decorate the interiors of homes and offices. It has up to 9 blades per sheet. Fatsia Hedera has only 5 with a compact bush size of up to 0.5 m.
The following varieties are known:
- Fatsia Spyder Bet has variegated foliage and fast growth. In 2 years, it rises up to 2 meters, reaching a width of 1.8 m. Large leaves up to 40 cm in diameter with the number of blades from 5 to 9. White spots are located on the green surface. Such shrubs are used to decorate offices, living quarters, and halls. From a change of place, a flower can change color. His lightest shades are in partial shade. The variety takes top dressing, lives at an optimal temperature of 20 degrees in summer and 16 in winter.
- Aureimarginalis has a beautiful crown with creamy and green leaves. A yellowish color appears along the edge of the plate.
- Fatsia japonica var. argenteimarginatis with a white leaf border.
- Fatsia japonica var. Moseri is a squat bush.
- Fatskhedera Lice is a hybrid obtained by crossing with ivy. The foliage is deep green, leathery, with 3 or 5 lobes. The evergreen shrub is very tall. The stem is thin, so support is required.
- Tsmugi Shibori - homemade fatsia, for which care is carried out with gloves - its juice is poisonous. The trunk acquires bark with age, the foliage shows a predominance of white shades.
Fatsia Sheflera is a popular indoor flower with high decorative qualities. Taking care of him is not easy. The plant does not tolerate lack of light and low temperatures.
Fatsia Samurai
The culture grows up to 1.5 m. Fatsia Samurai often produces greenish fragrant flowers when grown indoors.
Fatsia variegated
This variety has a white crown with green tints. Fatsia variegated requires regular watering. Do not allow overdrying of the soil, as well as the bay. Bad consequences, illness follows any disturbance in the moisture regime of the earth, which should be mild with a neutral reaction.
Home care
In the room, the fatsia flower prefers bright places with natural light, but without direct sunlight. This is typical of specimens with variegated foliage. If it is green, placement on the north window is possible.
A universal soil is suitable for the roots, where it is recommended to add sand or vermiculite. Drainage is required, it should be 1/3 of the container.
Air humidity
Fatsia, whose home care requires adequate air humidity, loves procedures such as warm showers and sprays. The culture then grows better, although it does not make great demands on water in the atmosphere. With dry air, its decorative effect decreases. The juiciness of the leaves disappears, their ends begin to dry. The required level of 50% is achieved by spraying once every 1 or 2 days.
Watering
Indoor evergreen fatsia flower needs regular watering. Moistening the soil is done when the surface layer dries up by 2 cm. In the autumn period and when dormancy occurs, the amount of water is reduced. The peculiarity is that if you dry out the ground at least once, the leaves can wilt and never return to their previous state. Excess moisture is also harmful. The plant can get sick. During the growing season, it is necessary to feed the fatsia. Organic fertilizers alternate with a mineral variety.
Temperature
A plant like Fatsia lives under the optimal regime, most favorable for it, from 17 to 21 degrees. For the rest period, this value is lowered to 15 degrees.
Living quarters do not always meet these conditions. Fatsia japonica needs aeration, but does not tolerate drafts.
Pruning
To form a bush, young shoots are pinched. Pruning is done annually, choosing early spring from all seasons. Old, dry and overly thin branches are removed. Healthy ones should be shortened by 1/3. This is an incentive for the formation of shoots. The result is a bush with a beautiful crown shape. The tops are pinned to young plants if they are excessively stretched upward. In this case, the growth of lateral branches is expected.
Plant transplant
A signal that the underground part has overgrown is the appearance of roots that have come out through the drain holes of the pot. The transshipment method is carried out by removing the plant from a container with a clod of earth. An inspection is made to identify and remove damaged places. The next pot is chosen 2 cm larger. Drainage and a layer of earth are placed at the bottom. Positioning the plant, sprinkle additional soil from the sides. For survival, fatsia must be kept in the shade for the first time.
Reproduction methods
There are several methods for reproduction: seed germination and vegetative method.
Cuttings
For this method of reproduction, side shoots are taken. The branches are cut so that there are several buds on each piece, and they are placed in peat mixed with sand. The microclimate will be favorable if the cuttings are covered with jars. Air access is also necessary, which is achieved by regular ventilation. Watering is also needed. When leaves appear, the cuttings can be considered rooted. Then they are seated in pots.
Seeds
Spring is considered the most favorable season for sowing, since the day arrives in length, and backlighting is not required. Also, many people prefer to germinate planting material immediately after collection or purchase - germination is quickly lost over time. It is preliminarily recommended to keep the seeds in water with an added growth stimulant.
Then they act in the following stages:
- Soil preparation. For indoor cultivation, you can only disinfect in the oven or with steam. There are no other requirements.
- The seed boxes are placed in the dark at a temperature of 13 degrees C.
- A month later, the container is moved to light, increasing the temperature by 3 degrees.
- When 2 true leaves appear, the plants dive.
Fatsia is grown for another six months, then planted in a permanent place. At the same time, they are transferred with a clod of earth, preserving the root system.
Layers
Reproduction by layering is performed in the spring. It is necessary to remove the shell from the trunk and attach the moistened moss. From above, everything is covered with cellophane film. It is necessary to maintain humidity. The emerging roots will be visible through the transparent wrapper. A little lower, the plant is cut off and transplanted into another container.
The stump is cut to the surface of the soil, covered with wet moss. With regular watering, shoots will appear.
Poisonousness of the flower
Poisonous substances are found in all parts of the flower. After touching the bush, you should wash your hands with soap and water.
Fatsia Japanese loves proper home care. Fatsia enjoys worldwide popularity as one of the most beautiful indoor plants. Large leaves are the reason for the sympathy of flower growers and stylists. Knowing this, breeders have developed new varieties, comprehensively demonstrating decorative qualities. To decorate the interior with a plant, you need to show only a little daily care.
