  • the bush looks great as a separate element of landscape design, but it can be combined with other flower crops;
  • the plant blooms for a long time - from July to October.

There are few disadvantages of panicle hydrangea. On the peduncles of some varieties, rusty spots may appear, which makes the bush look untidy.

Note! If hydrangea paniculata grows in an area with constant solar irradiation, the inflorescences begin to fade.

Planting panicle hydrangea outdoors in spring and summer

It is not at all difficult to grow a bush on the site. Features of the choice of soil for panicle hydrangea, planting and care in the open field for it, how to water and what to feed should be considered in more detail.

Planting panicle hydrangea in open ground

Site and soil selection and preparation

For planting a flower culture, choose a sunny place. It can grow in partial shade, but the flowering will not be as long and lush. The landing site must be protected from the wind. The soil prefers slightly sour, fertile.

Next to which plants it is better to plant

Panicle hydrangea perfectly coexists with ground cover plants. You can plant a crop under fruit trees. The bush grows up to 1.5 m, so it needs additional space. Flowers that feel great on acidic soil can also coexist with shrubs.

How to plant

The process of planting a shrub in open ground is as follows:

  1. The site of the future planting is rid of the roots of another plant, they dig up the soil.
  2. After 2 weeks, a hole is dug 70 cm wide and 40 cm deep.
  3. A soil mixture is prepared in advance, which is enriched with a nutritious substrate, fertilizers.
  4. They fall asleep in the pit. Then, after 2 weeks, the soil is dug up again and the planting pit is prepared.
  5. Take a seedling and place it in this hole. The roots are carefully added so that the root collar remains at ground level.
  6. The soil is tamped and watered with warm water, after which it is mulched.

Plant care

After planting, provide the plant with proper care. This is the only way to get a flowering healthy shrub of panicle hydrangea.

Watering

The flower culture loves moisture - it grows poorly in drought. It should be watered once every 2 weeks, in the dry season once a week. In the rainy season, once a month is enough. The bush needs 20 liters of water at a time.

Fertilizers and feeding

If, in the process of planting a flower crop, a nutrient mixture has already been added to the planting pit, then fertilizers begin to be applied only after 2 years. At different times, feeding is different:

  • In summer, it can be a concentrate from cow, horse manure or chicken manure. From mineral fertilizers, urea or potassium sulfate is chosen.
  • During budding, fertilizers rich in potassium and phosphorus are applied. Special complex feeding is allowed.
  • In September, the soil is watered with potassium humate. During the rainy season, treat with a solution of the Radiance 1 drug.

Note! Within 6 m from the place where the shrub grows, ash, chalk, dolomite flour must not be introduced into the soil, since the roots of panicle hydrangea spread far.

Mulching and loosening

Sawdust is used as mulch. You can take tree bark, spruce opal, peat chips. Loosening is carried out 3 times per season. It is deepened by 7 cm, while weeds are removed.

Pruning

The event is mandatory. The tree plant is pruned to a minimum, and bush species in the spring to summer at the level of 3 buds. Over the summer, all shoots (except for the main one) are pinched 1-2 times. They also form a crown when the bush reaches more than 1.5 m.

Preparing for winter

As mentioned earlier, you do not need to cover the plant for the winter. It is enough to sprinkle sawdust, humus around the trunk or use coniferous litter. Last year's shoots are removed, and the rest of the branches are tied with ropes so that they do not fall to the ground under the weight of the snow and do not break.

Reproduction

There are several ways to propagate panicle hydrangea. The most widespread is cultivation from seeds, propagation by layering, dividing the bush, cuttings.

Growing from seeds

The bush is rarely propagated by seeds, since the process is difficult and not the fastest in time. Seeds are bought or harvested after the plant has faded. Take exclusively from the central area of the inflorescence. The seeds are small, but they are suitable for reproduction. Next, the germination process is carried out:

  1. A cotton pad is placed on a saucer. Seeds are distributed on top of it. Then cover with a second disc.
  2. Pour in a special solution (for example, Epin preparation) for better germination.
  3. Maintain a temperature regime of 15-20 ℃. The seeds will begin to hatch in a week.

Then it remains to sow the germinated seeds in a container with slightly acidic soil. They are not buried. Sprinkle with sand. The container must be covered with foil and ventilated from time to time. After a month, the plants are transplanted into a deep volumetric pot. The panicle hydrangea will spend the first 2 years in it. As a result, they are planted in a permanent place.

Cuttings

In summer, cuttings are harvested from semi-lignified branches, in autumn and spring from lignified parts of the bush. Cutting process:

  1. The bottom cut should be at a 45 degree angle. A straight cut is made at a distance of 5-6 cm.
  2. The prepared cuttings are left in a humate solution overnight.
  3. The next day, they are planted, burying them in half, in a glass with a prepared nutrient substrate.
  4. Cover with foil. Ventilate every 3 days. After a couple of weeks, the film is removed and the soil continues to be moistened.
  5. After 3 months, the sprouted cuttings are transplanted into open ground.

Additional Information! For the winter, young paniculata hydrangea must be covered. In the first year, they do not tolerate the cold well.

Dividing the bush

The procedure is carried out as follows:

  1. The plant is dug up in the spring.
  2. Divide the bush into parts.
  3. The roots are sprinkled with charcoal to exclude infection through damaged areas.
  4. The bush is transplanted to a permanent place, in a previously prepared hole.

Soon new shoots will appear, but the shrub will begin to bloom only the next season.

Layers

Perform in early spring. Procedure step by step:

  1. Dig up the soil near the hydrangea paniculata, level it out.
  2. Radial grooves are made approximately 2 cm deep.
  3. Shoots are laid in "rays", fixed and covered with earth.

At the end of summer, several new shoots will form from the cuttings. As soon as they reach 15 cm, they must be hilled. After a while, the procedure is repeated. In October, the layers are separated from the parent bush, they are added dropwise for the winter, and in the spring they are transplanted into the beds. Landing in a permanent place is possible in a year.

How to lay hydrangea paniculata

Diseases and pests: means of combating them

Hydrangea paniculata is resistant to most diseases. During dry periods, it can suffer from pest attacks. These are usually aphids, snails, or spider mites. If snails can be collected by hand, then in order to get rid of other pests, use a solution of Vermitic, Akarin or another similar drug.

Use in landscape design

Panicle hydrangea looks great in the garden, even if it grows alone. It is often planted with other plants. Sometimes shrubs are arranged in a row, for example, along a fence or path. Since the flower culture takes root well in urban air pollution, it is regularly found in parks, on alleys and under the balconies of residential buildings.

Paniculata hydrangea is an excellent plant for a garden plot. Only proper care is needed, and she will surely respond with lush flowering from July to October.
