Chrysanthemum multiflora (spherical) - growing and reproduction

Multiflora belongs to the genus Chrysanthemum, intended for planting in flower beds in summer cottages. In the natural environment, it grows mainly in Asia. There are 30 plant species. Chrysanthemum globular represents the Korean group.

Popular varieties, description

In Russia, frost-resistant varieties have gained wide popularity. Most of them need winter shelter. Active breeding in Europe began in the first half of the 19th century.

Chrysanthemums in pots

Branbeach white

The variety is characterized by low resistance to low temperatures. The diameter of the bush is 42 cm. The height of an adult plant is 35 cm. The early flowering chrysanthemum blooms in the open field in autumn, at the beginning of September. Flowers, as the name suggests, are white.

Pay inunderstanding! In winter, it is recommended to store the bushes in the basement, and in the spring to select cuttings in order to grow new shoots.

Branindio Branindio

The bush is compact, up to 45 cm high, with a diameter of 0.5 m. The variety will bloom from August to October, winters poorly, and requires high-quality shelter.

Branbeach Sunny

Parameters similar to Branbeach White. A variety of curb chrysanthemums (undersized). The bushes are spherical, covered with flowers.

Branhill red

Flowering begins in the second half of August, the diameter of one flower is up to 5 cm. The bush is spherical, compact, low. The height of the bush is 0.3 m.

Branfountain salmon

Chrysanthemums are great for borders and ridges. The variety is undersized, compact.

Branfountain lemon

The spherical chrysanthemum multiflora reaches one and a half meters in height. The plant should overwinter under cover. Lemon-colored flowers.

Branfountain purple

Forms a lush voluminous bush, flowers from bright purple to lilac, densely double. Shelter is required for wintering. The flowering period is at the end of August. Lasts until frost (September).

Branbeach lilac

Inflorescences of a mauve shade. The flowers are large, up to 7 cm in diameter. Flowering begins in September. The bushes form themselves into hemispheres.

Branbeach orange

Flowering begins in mid-August. Inflorescences are orange. The variety is the most winter-hardy of the entire group of plants.

Chrysanthemum multiflora: planting and care in the open field

Multiflora is planted in open ground in a sunny place. Only this location will allow you to grow a beautiful spherical bush of chrysanthemums. Requires uniform lighting.

How to prepare the soil and flower for planting

What should be the optimal soil for planting chrysanthemums? The soil must be moisture permeable. Chrysanthemum bushes need a lot of water. An important prerequisite for planting is soil preparation. Peat, turf and sand are introduced into the planting holes in a 1: 1: 1 ratio.

Note! In Central Russia, planting chrysanthemums can be carried out in the spring (at the very beginning of May). In more southern regions, planting is carried out a month earlier (from April).

In areas located to the north, landing in open ground is not recommended. Only in the middle of the last spring month are chrysanthemums allowed to be taken outside.

The bushes are planted at a distance of at least 0.2 m from each other. Pits filled with prepared soil are poured with water (from 3 liters per pit) and complex fertilizer is applied. Next, the plant is planted, straightening the root system and deepening it to the level of the first leaves. The leaves will die off after 2 weeks as part of the normal development cycle.

How to care for a flower

Proper care involves maintaining high humidity. At the first sign of dry soil, the plant is watered. With heavy rains, watering is reduced.

Top dressing and soil quality

Growing chrysanthemums is not complete without top dressing. The first of them is carried out already a month after planting the plant (based on nitrogen fertilizers). During the active formation of buds, a second feeding should be carried out (based on potash and phosphorus fertilizers). It is worth feeding chrysanthemums immediately after planting the plant in a permanent place of growth. At the same time, the compositions are introduced only under the root, without affecting the leaves and buds.

Pruning and replanting

After flowering, the chrysanthemum is pruned, leaving only 10 cm of the aerial part. The action takes place in autumn (October-November).

It's important to know! It is necessary to transplant multiflora carefully, trying not to disturb the structure of the earthen coma, so as not to injure the flower.

Preparing chrysanthemum multiflora for wintering

After pruning in the fall, chrysanthemums need preparation for wintering. The bushes hibernating in the ground are covered with spruce branches and covered with humus on top. Chrysanthemum is opened in spring. This is done gradually so that the multiflora does not get sunburn.

A period of activity and rest

The plant is dormant during the winter. Active vegetation characterizes the period from spring to autumn.

Types and shape of flowers

Multiflora flowers exist in a wide variety of colors. As a rule, these are double or semi-double inflorescences. Flowers are medium or small in diameter.

Flower reproduction methods

Chrysanthemums are placed in spacious pots, which are removed to the house or basement in winter. The bushes are looked after and propagated according to the standard scheme.

Reproduction by dividing an adult plant

Reproduction of chrysanthemums by dividing the bush is a popular method. Implemented in April. The mother bush is dug, the process is separated from it, along with part of the root system. After that, they are planted in the ground.

Propagation by cuttings

In the case of using this method of breeding chrysanthemums, the algorithm of actions is strictly observed. The mother bush is dug up in March and brought into a warm (room temperature) room.

Note! The plant requires long-term illumination (at least 14 hours a day).

After some time, shoots 15 cm long appear. They are cut off and placed in wet sand. Cuttings are rooted in conditions as close as possible to greenhouse conditions.

Using seeds

You can grow multiflora from seeds. There are two options: planting through seedlings and sowing in open ground. Seedlings are usually planted in February-March. It is important to feed the plant in a timely manner and loosen the soil. Sowing in the ground should be done at the very beginning of May, and the holes should be covered with a film for the early germination of seeds.

Growing problems, diseases and pests

Rainy autumn weather often provokes outbreaks of powdery mildew on chrysanthemum bushes. In fact, this is the only disease that multiflora bushes are susceptible to. More often chrysanthemums suffer from pests. The most common ones are:

  • spider mite;
  • caterpillars;
  • aphid.

Chrysanthemums come in many shapes and colors. The plant is widely used in landscape design. It rarely gets sick, and home care involves regular watering and feeding.
