Bone sap planting and care in the open field

A companion from the genus of perennials from the Asteraceae family. The genus is numerous (about 600 species), some of them are cultivated as ornamental garden plants.

Short description

Eupatorium has a second name. This is due to the name of the king Eupator, who, as the ruler of Pontius, used the plant as an antidote. In Russian, the flower is called poskon.

Blooming steep

Plants are common on the European continent, Asia, America and the African tropics. The hemp steep is characterized by a high (from 70 to 180 cm) straight stem. The pubescent leaves are opposite. Reddish-purple, basket-like inflorescences are at the top of the stems in the form of a panicle.

Bonebrush (Eupatoria cannabinum L.) blooms from July to September. The roots and the herbaceous part exude a delicate aroma, have a bitter taste. It grows along river banks, along streams, as well as on swampy lawns.

Popular varieties

Known tall (up to 1.7 m) variety Flore Pleno, which is decorated with terry inflorescences. A feature of the popular Variegatum variety is the bright pink flowers of a wonderful decorative shape, growing up to 0.75 m. But today breeders continue to discover new varieties of the flower.

Bone sap: reproduction

Three breeding methods have become popular.

Cuttings of the stethoscope

The name of the method comes from the process of cutting cuttings. This is done at the end of June. The essence of the method is that cuttings are cut from the stems, which have three buds. They take root in greenhouse conditions, you can cover with a jar. Rooted sprouts at the end of summer are transferred to the site - to a bright, sunny place.

Important! The plant is hygrophilous, at the beginning of growth it is required to water abundantly. In the future, you need to moisten the soil as it dries.

The first winter outdoors is a serious test for the cutting. Therefore, it is recommended to cover the plantings with spruce branches.

Dividing the bush

The second method involves dividing the bushes into parts. This breeding method is suitable for 5 year old shrubs. The division procedure is carried out in the spring immediately after wintering. With the help of a shovel or knife, the excavated root is divided into several parts. Then the seedlings are planted in other places.

Important! It should be noted that each part contains at least three buds.

Bone sap: how to propagate by seeds

Seed propagation begins in March. First, seedlings are grown from seeds in a warm room. Since the planting material is small, they are lightly sprinkled with earth without deepening. Then watering is carried out with the addition of potassium permanganate and everything is covered with plastic wrap to create a greenhouse effect. After 20 days, the first shoots sprout. The film is removed and after 4-5 leaves appear on them, they begin to dive. When the weather is warm, the seedlings are transplanted into the soil.

Skeleton: planting and care in the open field

Flower seedlings will thrive and thrive in a well-organized environment.

Planting capacity and soil

How to plant a stethoscope? It all starts with the fact that containers are used as planting containers for growing seedlings. The soil is needed loose and fertile enough. The soil specially collected for seedlings meets these requirements. It is filled with the necessary mineral fertilizers and microelements.

Choosing the right time for sowing

The seedlings grown by seedlings usually bloom in the second or third year. Sow seeds in warm rooms in early spring.

The seeds can be mixed with fine sand and then sown in a container or box on top of moistened soil. It is necessary to sprinkle with water and cover with glass. The plant is distinguished by long-term germination.

Note! If seedlings appear only at the beginning of May, this is a perfectly acceptable time.

Timing

Sowing of seeds is carried out in March, and a strong rhizome of the sprouts is formed already in April.

Disembarkation seedlings in open ground and leaving take place at the end of May - beginning of June.

How to care for seedlings

With the appearance of the first pair of true leaves, the seedlings are transplanted into cups. In June, the seedlings are transplanted into a cold greenhouse, and the next spring the sprouts are planted in a permanent place in the open ground so that they grow, multiply and delight with flowers.

Site selection and soil preparation

The plant pleases with inflorescences, if the growing of the steep is carried out in a suitable place for it. Shrubs prefer moderately fertile, moist soil with good drainage in an open, sunny area. Can grow under partial shade. Light fertile loams in low places are the best option for cultivating an unpretentious dwarf shrub.

Important! Sandy loam and clay soils need preliminary refinement with organic matter (compost, humus)

Landing in open ground

Favorable terms of disembarkation in a permanent place - spring.

Landing is done after preliminary work:

  • digging;
  • removal of large stones;
  • arrangement of drainage;
  • introduction of nutrient additives into the soil (bone meal, ash, humus in a ratio of 1: 3: 6).

The planting holes should correspond to the size of the seedling rhizome, which is freed from the old earth. It is practiced to deepen into the soil by 5 cm.

A distance of about 70 cm is maintained between the holes. Then the soil around the seedling is compacted and watered.

Note! To conserve moisture and create a barrier to weeds, many growers use the sawdust mulching method.

Perennial in the garden

Bonewood: growing and care in the open field

Under natural conditions, caring for the broomstick consists in feeding, watering, and loosening the soil. Pruning during the growing season is not practiced. Faded twigs die off themselves, they need to be removed in a timely manner.

  • Temperature and lighting. The plant is thermophilic and light-loving, although it can put up with a little shade.
  • Watering. Evpatorium is a moisture-loving plant. In dry times, you need to water frequently.
  • Spraying. It provides for the prevention of the appearance of harmful insects in the form of spraying the bushes with fungicides.
  • Humidity. With all the disposition to moisture, care must be taken to prevent decay of the root system.
  • Priming. A flower bush needs breathable soil, so it often needs to be loosened and mulched, but not deeply.
  • Top dressing. The plant responds well to fertilization. The recommended scheme (3 times a season) gives the bush strength for growth and abundant flowering.

When and how it blooms

The most popular types of stethosis are:

  • hemp, which was named for its resemblance to hemp leaves;
  • the wrinkled look is subdivided into several varieties. For example, wrinkled Chocolate with black leaves is popular.Also known is the Braunlaub variety, which has brown leaves and buds;
  • purple with bluish-green stems and thyroid inflorescences;
  • Spotted steak has several varieties, among them the spectacular spreading Atropurpureum with strong stems and wine-red flowers;
  • The tubular species is distinguished by the Album variety, which grows into upright trapezoidal bushes three meters in height.

Flower shapes

Small flowers are collected in about 12 pieces. in the shape of a basket. Shield inflorescences reach 12 cm in diameter.

Flowering period

Blossoming time is August and September.

For your information! Plants also attract attention in October, when a silvery ebb and fruits with seeds appear on them. The smell of vanilla is present throughout the growing season.

Changes in care during flowering

With the onset of flowering, care is no more difficult than usual. It is necessary to control the condition of the soil, namely, its moisture, and also remove weeds as they appear on the site.

Planting a perennial in a vegetative way

Possible growing problems

Leaf damage from insects can be a serious problem.

Of the pests for the plant, leaf miners are dangerous. These insects live in leaves and gnaw passages in them. Poisonous chemicals do not work, you can only get rid of the damaged leaves.

For your information! The bone sap does not suffer from diseases.

Signs of improper care

The bush may remain without flowers in some cases:

  • with insufficient illumination of the site;
  • if the bush has not grown to the flowering period.

Use in landscape design

Bone stands are used mainly in the form of group plantings in order to revive the outlines of the terrain:

  • as a background plant;
  • for adding colors to mixed plantings in flower beds and rose gardens;
  • when registering coastal areas near water bodies;
  • for cutting.

Combines well with perennial flowers.
