Rose Claire Austin (Claire Austin) - what kind of variety, history of creation

Dense double flowers of a snow-white cream shade

Claire Austin is a perennial rose. This variety was bred in 2007 by the English florist and breeder David Austin. The new flower was named after Austin's daughter Claire. It is quite difficult to breed a rose with white petals, so such flowers are rare. David Austin bred many varieties of yellow and orange roses.

The new variety is the result of crossing a French rose with a hybrid tea. Roza Claire Austin is a scrub. Two types of it are known: curly and bush. Rose Claire is considered the best variety among those that David Austin has bred. He grows all new varieties in a garden called "Renaissance".

Important! Claire Austin should not be confused with Clear Ocean. Both roses are white in color, but belong to different groups and varieties.

Growing a flower, how to plant it in open ground

Rose lovers who dream of growing them on their personal plot will have to carefully study all the features of planting and care, as well as work a little.

In what form is the landing

Like many English roses, Claire Austin can be grown in many different ways:

  • cuttings;
  • seeds;
  • budding;
  • division;
  • layering.

Most gardeners prefer to plant the flower with cuttings and layering.

What time is the boarding

The best time for Claire Austin to root is the end of April and the first half of May. Cuttings are cut in the first days of summer and stored until planting.

Location selection

The landing site may be slightly shaded, but it must necessarily be sheltered from drafts and winds. It is best to plant this plant next to the wall of the house, near a gazebo or fence.

Areas where groundwater is close to the surface of the earth are not suitable. Stagnant moisture is very dangerous for the roots. Fertile loose soil is required, capable of passing moisture and air well.

How to prepare the soil and flower for planting

In a healthy seedling, you need to cut the roots a little, and then put it in water for 24 hours on the eve of planting.

To prepare the soil, you need to mix peat, garden soil, compost and river sand. Then the prepared soil should be filled with water.

Planting procedure step by step

Planting a plant should be given as much attention as possible. The future health and flowering of the rose depends on this.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. In the selected area, dig holes with a diameter of 70 cm and a depth of at least 50 cm.
  2. Lay crushed stone or broken brick at the bottom. The thickness of the drainage layer must be at least 5–6 cm.
  3. Pour prepared, moist soil on top.
  4. Place the seedling vertically, spread its roots and cover with soil.
  5. The earth must be lightly tamped and watered abundantly, using 1 bucket of water per hole.

Note! When growing Claire Austin's rose, the correct composition of the soil and proper flower care are essential.

Plant care

Despite its external splendor, Claire Austin's rose is unpretentious, so it's easy to care for it.

Watering rules and humidity

In summer, the bush should be watered abundantly once a week. The hotter the weather, the more often watering is required. In dry weather, it is advisable to do this daily. Claire Austin suffers greatly from the heat: in this weather, the buds and leaves often fall off.

Top dressing and soil quality

The seedling takes root in a nutritious soil mixture, therefore no additional feeding is required in the first year. Starting from the second year, the plant must be fertilized regularly.

In the spring, when the buds of the leaves swell, the bush should be fed with rotted manure. When buds appear on the branches, potash-phosphorus fertilizers are applied to the soil. In August, the plant is re-fed with these substances.

It is also necessary to regularly remove weeds near the roots of the bush so that they do not take away nutrients from the rose.

In temperate climates, this variety blooms like a floribunda, and in southern climates, like a climbing rose.

Pruning and replanting

It is best to cut the bush in the spring: then you can prepare cuttings for propagation. During the growing season, it is necessary to remove weak, diseased, withered and broken branches.

Features of wintering a flower

It is necessary to prepare for wintering in early October. The foliage should be removed from the branches, and then tilted towards the ground. Low partitions are installed above the bush, which will not allow the shoots to rise. In this form, the plant is covered with spruce branches, plastic wrap and insulation.

Blooming rose

Claire Austin's magnificent bloom will leave no one indifferent. The flowering bush has 100–120 buds.

A period of activity and rest

Rosa Claire Austin blooms twice a year. For the first time, it blooms closer to mid-June, and the second - in early August.This period lasts until mid-September.

Care during and after flowering

The flowering bush must be watered not only with water, but also with a nutrient solution. To prepare it, you need to mix rotten manure with nettle infusion. You also need to follow the rules for caring for the plant: water, weed and feed on time.

What to do if it does not bloom, possible reasons

The rose begins to bloom only in the second or third year after planting. If it has not bloomed even after a few years, it should be transplanted to a more suitable place and properly looked after.

Note! Transplanting helps in cases where there is too much nitrogen or too little phosphorus in the soil.

A delay or lack of flowering is often associated with these very problems.

The bush needs a suitable soil for flowering.

Flower propagation

If a Claire Austin rose grows in the garden, you want to have as many of these flowers as possible. For this, the plant must be propagated.

When is it produced

The most common method is grafting. This procedure is carried out in the spring - in April or May. Cut blanks should be stored in a dark place by placing them in a box with peat.

How to propagate a rose by cuttings:

  1. Choose a healthy shoot with a bud and cut off a 15 cm piece.
  2. Remove the bud and leaves from it. It is necessary to leave 2-3 leaves.
  3. Cut the cutting obliquely from below and process the cut site with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  4. Put the stalk in a container with soil, water and cover with a plastic bottle.

A few days later, the cutting should take root.

For reproduction by layering, it is necessary to bend a long shoot to the ground and fix it in several places. When roots grow in them, the branch is cut into pieces, which are planted at some distance from each other.

It is necessary to plant and transplant the bush together with an earthen lump.

Diseases, pests and ways to control them

Rose Claire Austin has strong immunity, but often suffers from pests and some diseases.

Dangerous diseases:

  • gray rot;
  • powdery mildew;
  • rust;
  • black spot.

Note! To avoid these ailments, it is necessary to feed the flower with nitrogenous fertilizers in early spring.

A great danger is posed by pests - leafworm, aphids, spider mites, sawflies. It is necessary to treat the bush with non-toxic insecticides. Among the best medicines are Fufanon, Tanrek and Lightning.

Snow-white roses are very rare

Claire Austin's beautiful but unpretentious rose will give the garden its delightful scent and delight everyone who sees it. This beautiful plant can be seen in many parks and gardens, as well as grown independently in your country house.
