Features of the Kordes Brillant variety

Rose Cordes diamond

Roses of the Cordes Brilliant variety were bred relatively recently, in 1983. Their appearance is a merit of the breeders of the Topalovich brothers' nursery, which is located in Serbia.

The company is famous for the fact that its employees have created dozens of new varieties, many of which have become popular in different parts of the world. The variety Cordes Brilliant was no exception.

Its name is translated from English as "diamond". For several decades, flower growers rank it among the best in the hybrid tea group. It is valued for its bright, cupped buds, which open for a long time on the shoots, as well as for the abundance of flowering.

For reference! Alternative names are found in the literature: Red Diamond or Miss Diamond, Diamond Corsair or Stars.

Description and characteristics

The bushes of the park rose Red Brilliant are lush, branching, with erect, well leafy shoots. They rise 1.5 m above ground level. The width of the shrubs is about 70 cm. The leaf plates are elongated, oval in shape, of medium size. They have a characteristic gloss and a rich emerald hue.

When roses bloom, several buds are formed on their shoots at the same time, collected in a brush. After 2-3 weeks, semi-double flowers of a deep scarlet color bloom. They acquire a beautiful cup-shaped shape, the size reaches 9 cm. Roses exude a delicate, light aroma.

Note! The variety can be grown in Siberia and the Urals, as it is able to withstand temperatures as low as -28 ° C.

Advantages and disadvantages

Gardeners who grow Brilliant roses note not only their advantages, but also some disadvantages.

Benefits disadvantages
Beautiful shape of flowers. Exposure of the lower part of the bushes, the need to hide the lack of undersized plants.
Bright, rich color.
Ability to give repeated profuse flowering.
Frost resistance, the ability to grow in regions with cold climates.
Slow bud opening.
Resistant to diseases and attacks of insect pests.

Use in landscape design

Park roses Kordes Brilliant are used to decorate hedges. The culture is good for single plantings, as the bushes grow in breadth.

Petals practically do not fade in the sun

Combinations of roses with lavender, geranium, hosta or primrose look great. But the most spectacular combinations can be obtained by planting, next to shrubs, those crops in which the foliage is painted in silvery shades, for example, wormwood or some varieties of carnations.

Open ground planting rules

Rose Red Diamond is easy to grow. For planting, it is better to purchase two-year-old seedlings from specialized nurseries or from trusted sellers.

Boarding time

It is recommended to plant young park rose bushes in May - early June, or with the onset of autumn, in September - October.

When planting, it is important that the root system of the seedling has time to adapt before the first frost. Therefore, in regions with a cold climate, it is necessary to plant the Cordes Brilliant variety in the fall as early as possible, or to postpone this work in the spring.

The choice of planting material

For rooting in the open ground, 1–2 year old rose seedlings or cuttings are purchased in advance.

  • Seedlings are placed in water a day before the planned planting date.
  • The cuttings must be well rooted so that their adaptation to a new place is easy and quick.

Location selection

Rose Brilliant is most comfortable in well-lit areas. At the same time, it must be protected from the midday heat, direct sunlight in the heat.

How to prepare the soil

The soil for planting rose bushes is prepared in advance. For this:

  1. Digging a hole. Its depth should be about 0.5 m.
  2. A layer of rubble is poured onto the bottom. It plays the role of drainage.
  3. Fertilizers are applied.
  4. Add earth.

If necessary, the soil is loosened well and get rid of stones

Planting procedure step by step

When the soil is ready, you can plant cuttings or seedlings. This is done like this:

  1. The planting material is examined. If damaged shoots are found, they are cut off.
  2. For 2 hours, they are dipped in a weak solution of a root growth stimulator.
  3. The seedlings are placed at a distance of 50 cm from each other.
  4. Dip into prepared wells. Sprinkle, trying not to compact the earth tightly.
  5. Watering.

Important! If the planting is carried out in the fall, then the seedlings are sprinkled with a hill of soil so that only slightly trimmed shoots remain on the surface. This makes the wintering process easier.

Plant care

Hybrid tea rose Diamond is unpretentious. This is one of the advantages of the variety. During the season, it is enough to water, feed and cut it.

Watering rules and humidity

Like most garden roses, Red Brilliant prefers moderate humidity and does not like stagnant water on the site. In the summer, it is watered twice a week, 15-20 liters for each shrub. Closer to autumn, the number is halved. With the beginning of autumn, watering is completed.

Excessive moisture threatens with rotting of the root system in roses. Sometimes overflows lead to the fact that the plants do not have the strength to form buds.

Top dressing

The hybrid feels comfortable in slightly acidic soil. If it turns out to be alkaline, then the bushes wither, develop poorly. It is important to loosen the soil regularly, especially if young specimens grow on the site.

Variety Cordes Brilliant is recommended to be fed 2-3 times per season. In the spring, nitrogenous compounds are applied as fertilizer. Before flowering, you can use rotted manure. And in summer, plants need complex potassium-phosphorus compounds.

Note!Many gardeners pluck all the buds from the bushes during the first year so that the seedlings can actively grow the root system.

Pruning and replanting

An important point in caring for the Cordes Brilliant variety is pruning. In spring and autumn, old and damaged shoots must be removed from them. This makes it possible to form a beautiful bush shape and promotes the active formation of buds.

It is advisable to replant roses only after 2-3 years of growing in one place, or in case of illness.

Wintering features

Hybrid Tea Rose Diamond may suffer from severe frosts. Therefore, on the eve of winter, flower growers perform the following work:

  • Rotted manure is brought in.
  • All shoots are trimmed, leaving about 1/3 of the length.
  • Sprinkle with humus.
  • Insulate with a covering material, or use spruce branches.

Blooming rose

Rose Red Diamond blooms profusely from June to October, even if faded buds are not picked from the bushes in time. During the dormant period, the plants rest and accumulate strength.

What to do if the rose does not bloom

Factors that negatively affect the formation of rosebuds include:

  • the appearance of wild growth with small foliage and a large number of thorns (it must be removed);
  • too heavy soil;
  • excess fertilizer;
  • lack of lighting.

Flower propagation

The main method of propagation of the Cordes Brilliant rose is by cuttings. There are other methods:

  • seminal (very long lasting);
  • layering;
  • with the help of vaccinations (on rose hips).

How to make cuttings

Varietal characteristics of roses are transmitted only when propagated by vegetative methods.

The best time for harvesting cuttings is early spring, when the threat of frost disappears. Breeding material is cut from healthy shoots. The cuttings must have at least 6 living buds and a length of about 10 cm. Then proceed as follows:

  1. The cuttings of roses are deepened into the moistened soil so that 3 buds are in the soil, the rest are outside.
  2. Construct a shelter from plastic or glassware.
  3. In the spring, the shoots are hardened, from time to time removing the shelter.
  4. A month later, the plant is transplanted into the ground.

Diseases and pests

Young rose bush

The most common pests attacking the Cordes Brilliant variety:

  • spider mite;
  • aphid;
  • thrips;
  • rose-colored sawfly;
  • rose leaf roll.

Note! The most effective insect control method is insecticide treatment of affected plants.

Another problem that growers may face when growing roses is gray mold, powdery mildew, rust or black spot. These diseases are fought with fungicides. They are used at least 3-5 times at intervals of 7 days.

Roses Cordes Brilliant help to create a special mood on the site. They often become the real pride of flower growers and a highlight in any collection. It is not difficult to grow them on the site and maintain them.
