Rose Heidi Klum - floribunda characteristics
Content:
Since ancient times, the rose has been considered a gift from the gods. The myth of Ancient Greece said that the rose arose from the foam of the sea that fell on the sand from the divine body of Aphrodite when she came out of the sea. Like sea foam, Heidi Klum's roses are striking in their airiness, beauty and are difficult to describe.
Rose Heidi Klum
The flower is a member of the subfamily Rosoideae (rose hips), belongs to the floribunda group. Plants of this group bloom for a long time, have many shades, captivating aromas. Rose Heidi Klum is a bright representative of it.
The variety was cultivated in 1999 by breeders from Germany. The famous German supermodel and TV star of the late 90s - early 2000s, Heidi Klum, visited the nursery. Seeing roses, she was delighted with the lush flowers and the pronounced aroma. This type of roses was named after her.
Rose Heidi is a small graceful rose, but the stems are straight and strong. The shrub reaches a height of 60-70 cm, its width is about 50-60 cm. The leaves have a rich green color, and the edges are serrated. Roses differ in bud color and aroma. The shape of the bush can be different - spreading, whip-like or conical.
The flower has large, dense and double buds. The color range of the petals is different: from light crimson pink to dark lilac and purple. As the bud opens, the petals acquire a silvery tint. A fully blossoming flower can reach 12 cm in diameter. The flowering of the shrub is long and abundant, the flowers are combined in clusters of 3-5 buds.
Heidi's rose has two varieties:
- Patio - miniature varieties, no more than 45 cm high.
- Haidee rose sectioned by Canadian growers is a park shrub up to 180 cm high.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Positive characteristics of Heidi Klum rose:
- decorativeness;
- long flowering period - up to 7 days;
- multiple flowering per season;
- beautiful and lush flowers;
- resistance to fungi and bacteria.
The disadvantages include:
- stunted bush;
- lack of flowering in hot weather.
Use in landscape design
Roses can be planted singly or as a group in the garden. Flowers of this variety serve as a decoration for rose gardens and flower beds. Tubs with roses can be used to decorate a veranda or an outdoor terrace. Heidi Klum rose is a rose that can be grown in combination with different crops: coniferous shrubs, cereals, ornamental and even wildflowers. The plant is used in the design of compositions in different styles: Mediterranean, English, rustic and Provence.
Growing a flower, how to plant it in open ground
In order for the flowering of hybrid roses to be long-lasting and abundant, agrotechnical rules must be observed. Rose bushes love sunlight or partial shade. From wind, cold air, drafts and excess moisture, the shrub can lose its decorative qualities.
Rose Heidi Klum takes root well in a porous, fertile environment. The recommended soil acidity is from 6.0 to 6.5 pH.The best soil option is organic chernozem or loam. Before planting a flower, it is necessary to prepare a planting hole and a seedling. To increase the fertility of the soil, humus or compost can be added to it in a layer of 10-15 cm. It is better to lower the rootstock of the seedling in a biostimulating preparation for plants for 5-10 minutes.
Step-by-step algorithm for the flower planting procedure:
- Prepare a planting hole approximately 50 × 50 cm wide and 60 cm deep.
- Cover the bottom of the pit with a layer of expanded clay drainage or a layer of pieces of red broken brick 10-15 cm thick.
- Add humus or compost 10 cm.
- The place that remains in the pit should be covered by two-thirds of the already harvested soil.
- Place the seedling in the center, straighten the roots and cover with a small amount of the remaining soil.
- Deepen the root collar of the seedling 3-4 cm into the soil so that the bush can release side branches from the base of the trunk.
- Compact the soil.
- Water the planted seedling immediately with a moderate amount of water at the root.
- Cover the top with a layer of peat.
Plant care
Heidi Klum rose dressing is selected depending on the season. In the spring and until half of summer, nitrogen compounds should be included in the fertilizer, in the other half of summer and until the end of autumn - with the content of potassium and phosphorus. Fertilize the plant when the bush is in full bloom and after flowering, so that it still has the strength to winter. Water the plant sparingly, without overflowing, but regularly.
Pruning
The shrub needs pruning. This procedure promotes the formation of new branches, and the flowering becomes more abundant and lasting. Prune the bush twice a season. Remove dead wood, diseased or damaged branches and wilted buds. In the first flowering, the buds are removed to prevent fruit formation. Otherwise, the rose will spend on this supply of nutrients, and it will not be enough for the second flowering.
Dried buds must be removed along with the buds on top of the flower and the leaves underneath. Such actions contribute to the formation of new shoots and more buds. Circumcision is stress for the flower, therefore, immediately after the manipulations carried out, it must be fed.
The last pruning is done in mid-autumn. Broken and excess branches are removed in order to carefully and neatly cover the bush for the winter. In the middle of spring, the shrub also needs to be cut off, leaving 3-4 dense and developed buds.
Blooming rose
The main advantage of the Heidi Klum variety is the extraordinary beauty of flowering, which lasts a long time and is distinguished by its abundance and splendor.
In central Russia, the Floribunda Heidi Klum rose blooms twice. The bush rose blooms in waves during the season. Its rich aroma, combining notes of ripe apricot and tropical cinnamon, will captivate any person.
At the end of summer, flowering stops. This means that the plant is preparing for a dormant period. During flowering, it is better to feed the flower with fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus.
If the flower has stopped blooming or does not bloom at all, the reasons may be:
- prolonged heat at the time of flowering;
- lack of nutrients due to lack of feeding, weakened soil;
- improper or insufficient circumcision;
- pests or diseases.
Flower propagation
To preserve varietal qualities, the rose bush is propagated by cuttings, and it is better to do this in the summer. Spring is the right time for root suckering.
Old plants reproduce by dividing the bush or by root suckers. When the first flowering begins, you need to cut off the young shoots. The stalk should be 10-13 cm long. His bottom edge is neatly trimmed, observing an angle of 45 °. From above, the cut is made in a straight line.The stalk must have at least 3 buds, the lower foliage is completely removed. The branches are planted at a slight slope. A greenhouse is made of film or glass from above.
Diseases, pests and ways to control them
Most susceptible to diseases are stems and leaves of a rose, to a lesser extent - buds and flowers. The plant can be infected with gray mold, powdery mildew and downy mildew, infectious burns and rust. The danger is posed by insects: aphids and rosacea sawfly, leafworm, gall and spider mites.
The main way to prevent the occurrence of diseases and harmful insects is to comply with sanitary and preventive measures. For this you need:
- adhere to agrotechnical norms and rules;
- systematically cut off the affected areas of the plant;
- regularly treat the rose with protective preparations.
Caring for Heidi Klum's rose is not particularly difficult. If you adhere to all the rules, the plant will delight for a long time with its abundant and lush flowering.
