Rose Wow (Wow NT)

Bright roses always attract special attention: in the store, and at home, and on the site. Today we will talk about a hybrid tea rose of the Wow HT rose variety, because its flowers are really juicy, interesting, and eye-catching. Next, there will be a detailed description of the plant, some features and rules of growing.

general information

Rose Wow belongs to the group of modern garden roses (approved in 1976 by the World Federation of Rose Societies). The species was bred by breeders from Holland in 2007. There are now numerous varieties, colors and shades of the wow rose.

Bushes grow up to a meter in height and up to 70 cm in width. Sometimes there are even more. The leaves are dark green, glossy, ovate with pronounced veins up to 10 cm. The stems are long, rectilinear. There are thorns.

Rose Wow

Usually there are from 1 to 4 flowers on peduncles. The color ranges from coral to dark scarlet. It depends on the created conditions, climate, terrain.

The advantages of this type:

  • Unearthly beauty. The flower simply captivates with its appearance and aroma (although it is not very strong).
  • Resistant to weather conditions: it does not lend itself to either hot sun, or frost (up to -15 degrees), or strong winds.
  • Resistant to diseases and pests.

There are no particularly noticeable shortcomings. Some flower lovers point out that the plant needs to be looked after regularly. However, this definition can be given to almost all beautiful colors.

In general, breeders bred Wow hybrid tea roses for commercial purposes, but they are also often used in landscape design as decoration.

Flowers are grown on the site in various places: along the house, in the flower bed, at the entrance to the estate, etc. The rose bush fits perfectly into any place. Therefore, gardeners usually plant in the place where they can often contemplate beautiful sprouts.

Growing a flower

Usually roses are planted in the ground with seedlings to a depth of 10-15 cm. The rose can be planted in the ground, both in autumn and spring. However, it must be remembered that the soil must be warmed up, which means that spring must be late (late April-early May), and autumn, on the contrary, is early (until mid / late October), that is, for Indian summer.

Important! If the cold comes earlier than 18-20 days after planting, then the Wow rose may simply die, because it does not have time to get stronger in the soil.

The landing site should be calm, sunny and spacious. At the same time, there should be no stagnation of air, and the shade can be useful in especially hot and dry weather.

The earth must be nourished with minerals for better growth.

You need to take garden soil (they often take the dug soil from the hole in which the rose will be planted), sand, compost and peat. The proportion is 2: 2: 3: 1.

Sometimes superphosphate and ash are added in proportions of 1: 5-10 per 1 m², if the soil is very poor.

Important! The soil must be slightly acidic (pH 5.5-6.5), otherwise the plant will die.

If the pH is below this, you can add softwood litter, sawdust, leaf compost, manure or sphagnum moss. This is rare. But the situation with the fact that you need to reduce the amount of acidity comes across more often. In this case, it is worth adding dolomite flour 200-500 gr or lime 200 gr. However, you need to do this very carefully, otherwise then you will have to increase the acidity and the soil will be too stuffed with various microelements.

Before planting in the ground, it will be useful to saturate the seedlings with water. This will take about 5-6 hours of time. After pruning rotten, weak roots and you can plant.

Planting procedure step by step

  1. Dig a hole about 80 cm deep. This is necessary because roses have long roots that require nutrients.
  2. Fill the bottom with drainage, for example, from sand and gravel. However, if the soil is already saturated with sand, then this stage can be dispensed with.
  3. Fill up the soil mixture.
  4. Plant seedlings at a distance of 10-15 cm from the surface, gently straightening the roots.
  5. Cover with earth.
  6. Drizzle.
  7. Mulch.

Plant care

Rose Wow requires weekly watering. Care must be taken that the ground is not both dry and constantly wet.

In colder times, the number of waterings can be reduced to 1 time in 2 weeks. It will be helpful to mulch the soil with humus after watering, but this is not necessary.

Important! You need to fertilize throughout the season, because otherwise the plant will develop slower and worse. Therefore, it is necessary to feed the bushes with the help of mineral fertilizers containing phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

Plants will not get worse with organic fertilizers. When the bush begins to grow abundantly, it is necessary to add a nitrogen mixture to the soil. To do this, you need to take 10 grams of urea, 10 liters of water and 20 grams of nitrate, mix and fertilize.

If the gardener does not want to or does not have time to make additional fertilizing on his own, then you can just buy it. In this case, you need to take fertilizer for flowering flowers.

Pruning and replanting

Pruning should be done in the first year of life, leaving 2-3 buds per bush. When the shoots grow up again, it will be necessary to cut off another 5-6 buds.

During the period of active growth, pruning can be carried out, thereby stimulating the growth of strong shoots. When cold weather comes, it is necessary to cut the flowers completely: shoots, leaves, buds.

It is also important to remove weeds and irrigate the soil so that nothing prevents the roses from growing.

Features of wintering a flower

You can not cover the plant immediately after pruning - give a little time for it to acclimatize.

Although the flower is frost-hardy, when the temperature reaches -5, it needs to be covered. Cover the sprouts with soil or peat and cover with spruce branches.

In the event of a harsh winter, roses can be insulated with frames and plastic materials.

Blooming rose

Typically, the Wow rose blooms in the summer, from June to August. Sometimes they begin to bloom at the end of May, and end at the end of September. But this is more the exception than the rule.

The buds are tall (up to 10 cm) and bloom rather slowly (up to two weeks). Also flower diameters can be up to 14 cm in size.

Attention! After cutting flowers, they do not fade for about 10-12 days, which is why they are popular with florists.

During budding and flowering of the plant, you need to increase the amount of fertilizer: instead of 10 grams of urea, take 40-50 grams, 25 grams of nitrate and add 15 grams of potassium in 10 liters of water. Watering does not need to be reduced, it can even increase if necessary.

Also at this time, the plant may be more sensitive to weather changes, diseases and pests, so if any negative changes appear, you need to immediately eliminate them so that the flower does not die at all.

When the buds have faded, the plant should be fertilized again, because it has weakened. It is important to increase the amount of potassium but decrease the weight of the nitrogen mixture. Maintain watering or slightly reduce.

What if it doesn't bloom? The reason for the lack of flowering is banal - the flower simply does not have enough minerals or water. In this case, it is necessary to pay attention to the growing conditions and care. If you do not catch yourself in time, then during the season the rose may never bloom. However, if everything is done correctly, then the next season will delight you with abundant flowering.

Flower propagation

The easiest way to propagate roses is by cuttings. Thus, a large amount of planting material is obtained. The procedure is carried out when there are kidneys, that is, in late spring - early summer.

Stalk in a pot

It is necessary to cut off a strong shoot, then divide it into cuttings. Each segment should have a bud and a leaf. Approximate size up to 10 cm.

After that, you need to dry the cuttings a little (60-80 minutes is enough). To be sure that the rose will take root and develop properly, you can add nutrients to stimulate root growth.

While the plant is withering, there is time to prepare the pots and potting soil for the sprouts. The composition of the soil described above does not change. When everything is ready, the cuttings can be planted in the ground.

note! The cuttings need constant moisture. It is usually created using plastic wrap.

When the plants get stronger, they can be transplanted to the site.

Diseases, pests and ways to control them

Roses rarely get sick or are exposed to pests. However, if this happens, you need to eliminate the source as soon as possible.

If it is aphid, black spot or powdery mildew, then poison with Intra-Vir or Aktellik. If this is rotting of the roots, then either remove a new stalk, or cut off the rotten parts of the root, transplant the plant and carefully look after it until it gets stronger. If the leaves begin to dry, then add water and minerals.
